Experiential Marketing Ideas: 10 UK Brand Activations

You’ve been told to make the launch, roadshow or trade show “experiential”, and nobody has said what that means in practice. Experiential marketing gets people to do something with your brand, not just look at it. These experiential marketing ideas are activations we run for clients, grouped by what you want the activation to achieve. For each one we’ve said what visitors do, what space and staffing it needs, and who it suits.

What does experiential marketing mean?

Experiential marketing is a live, hands-on way for people to engage with a brand or product, such as a game, simulator, challenge or immersive space. Brand activation is the closely related term: the activity that brings a brand to life in front of a real audience.

The point is to give people something to remember and talk about, such as a branded simulator or a reaction wall, rather than a leaflet. That is also the hard part: the activity has to fit your brand and your objective, or it becomes entertainment that nobody connects to you.

Experiential marketing ideas by goal

Pick the goal first, then the activity. A stand that needs footfall wants something different from a customer event that needs goodwill.

Get people to stop at a stand

Branded driving simulators and reaction games are the classic crowd-pullers because passers-by understand them at a glance and can see someone else playing.

  • What happens: visitors take a seat and race, or react to lights on a wall as fast as they can, while a queue watches. A score to beat gives people a reason to come back.
  • Space and staffing: our driving simulators come in setups from 1 to 16 simulators, with 55-inch screens and force-feedback wheels, and optional VR headsets. Custom branding is available, and setup, breakdown, all equipment and professional hosts are included with our corporate events.
  • Best for: trade shows and exhibitions where you need people to stop and talk to your team.

Branding on the equipment itself keeps your name in view while someone plays.

We’ve run driving simulators with Optimum Nutrition, and Diane Collins, Business Developer at Howdens, told us: “The driving simulator was amazing and enjoyed by all our customers and staff.” For another take on branded games, DPA Microphones hired a branded Reaction Wall and Axe Throwing for an annual corporate party, and Alyssia, their Events Lead, said it was “super reliable, easy to use and fun for all.”

Let people step into your product world

VR and AR experiences suit brands whose product or story is hard to bring to a stand in person.

  • What happens: visitors put on a headset, or step into a custom AR space, and experience something themed around your brand. Our VR Flight Simulator uses real 360-degree fighter-jet footage. Our augmented reality spaces and games are custom-built and branded for activations, conferences and trade shows.
  • Space and staffing: the VR Flight Simulator runs from 1 to 30 headsets at about 1 x 1 m each, and it’s fully staffed. AR spaces are custom-built, so confirm the footprint with us.
  • Best for: launches, conferences and open days where you want a memorable demonstration rather than a brochure.

Create a talking point people will share

AI Robot Wars and the metaverse arcade give people something to film and talk about.

  • What happens: in AI Robot Wars, teams of 6 to 12 steer robots around an arena, tailored to your space from a giant race track to a small arena. Nobody needs AI, robotics, coding or VR experience. The AI & Metaverse Experience Arcade offers Robot Wars, Metaverse Sports and Reaction Machines on 1 to 50 VR headsets, for groups of 10 to 1,000, and it is beginner friendly.
  • Space and staffing: Robot Wars scales up to 500 participants, so we confirm the floor plan once we know your venue.
  • Best for: brand events, internal launches and anywhere a tech-forward message matters.

Entertain and build loyalty at customer or staff events

Game shows, hosted games and arcade formats work when the objective is goodwill rather than footfall.

  • What happens: guests compete in game shows and quizzes such as Taskmaster-style and Cube challenges, themed around your company. The Betrayers, inspired by The Traitors, adapts to the space and group size. Free-flow arcade games let people drop in and out.
  • Space and staffing: game shows come with setup included, and The Betrayers includes a professional presenter and all AV.
  • Best for: customer evenings, post-conference socials and staff celebrations. Tell us about mixed-ability and non-drinking guests when you enquire, so we can advise on what suits.

We delivered post-conference entertainment for Laravel Live, a good fit if you are planning conference socials, and Jonathan Behr, their CTO / VP of Engineering, wrote: “We used Gold Tier Events for an after-conference social with 250+ guests, and I cannot say enough good things about Reece and his crew.”

Reach families and communities

A family fun day turns a brand into a host. We delivered a full-scale family fun day for Amcor, covering inflatables, food vendors, entertainment and logistics. Our family fun days can include inflatables, rock climbing, mini golf, giant Connect 4, live music, circus workshops, animal shows and a gaming van.

It suits employee-and-family events, community days and customer appreciation, where the goal is warmth and a good day out rather than leads.

How to plan an experiential activation

Planning decides whether an activation pays off. These steps keep it on track.

  1. Set one objective. Footfall, leads, product trial, goodwill or content are different jobs. Choose one main goal and design for it.
  2. Know your audience. A procurement director at an exhibition and a family at a community day want very different things.
  3. Make the brand part of the activity. Branded screens, wheels, walls and prizes mean the memory carries your name. Custom branding is available on our driving simulators and corporate events.
  4. Plan staffing. Someone should run the activity, and someone else should talk to people. Our corporate events include setup, breakdown, all equipment and professional hosts.
  5. Plan lead capture before the day. Decide what you will ask for, why, and how people consent. Under UK GDPR you need a lawful basis and clear information for people, so check the ICO’s guidance and your own data policy before collecting details.
  6. Plan the follow-up. Agree who contacts people, when, and with what message. A good score can be the hook for a personal email.
  7. Decide how you will measure it. Track things you can count: queue length, plays, conversations, leads collected, content shared. Don’t promise a sales result in advance, because many things affect it.

What goes wrong and how to avoid it

  • Queues that put people off. If one simulator sits in front of a crowd, most people walk on. Match the number of stations to expected footfall, and keep sessions short.
  • An activity that has nothing to do with your brand. If visitors can’t say what it was for, the activity entertained without marketing. Tie the theme, branding or prize to your message.
  • No follow-up. Leads collected on the day and never contacted are wasted. Book the follow-up time before the event.
  • Too little space. Check the footprint, power and access with your venue early, and confirm the layout with us. Our event management service can cover the wider logistics, including venue sourcing and catering and transport coordination.
  • A tricky first-time experience. Pick activities that need no skill or prior experience, so anyone can have a go within a minute. AI Robot Wars and the metaverse arcade are beginner friendly.

Treat these as directions rather than rules:

  • Physical and digital together. AR and VR let a stand show things that can’t be carried through the door. Use them where they explain the product.
  • Personal follow-up. Where an activity records a score and you have consent to collect names, the score can be the hook for a personal follow-up message rather than a generic email.
  • Inclusive design. Seated options and activities that don’t depend on alcohol or physical ability widen who can take part. Confirm access needs with your supplier.

FAQs

What are some examples of experiential marketing?

Examples include a branded driving simulator on an exhibition stand, a VR or AR experience that puts visitors inside your product world, an AI robot battle that creates a crowd, and a themed game show at a customer event. The common thread is that people do something with your brand rather than just watching an advert.

What are the best experiential marketing campaigns?

The strongest campaigns share a few traits: a clear objective, an activity that fits the brand, a reason for people to take part, and a way to follow up afterwards. Famous stunts get the headlines, but a well-run branded game on your own stand can deliver the same principles at a realistic scale.

What are some good marketing ideas?

Pair your digital activity with something people can do in person. A branded simulator, game or challenge at a trade show, roadshow or customer event gives people a reason to stop, gives your team a conversation to start, and gives you a way to capture leads with consent.

What’s hot in marketing right now?

Directions worth considering are pairing physical activations with digital tools such as AR and VR, using consented data capture to personalise follow-up, and designing activities so more people can take part. Treat any single trend as a tool for your objective, not a goal in itself.

What does experiential mean in marketing?

Experiential marketing invites people to take part in a live, hands-on experience with a brand or product, instead of only viewing an advert. The aim is a memory and a feeling that a banner or post can’t create, delivered at events, stands, pop-ups or roadshows.
